How much movement is the options market pricing in?
Expected Ranges puts option-implied movement beside the underlying price for specific expirations. It gives a scale for the move being priced, rather than a prediction that price must reach a particular boundary.
A useful read order
- Choose the horizon
Compare the short two-day window, current week, and monthly horizon. Read the actual expiration beside each range.
- Locate price
Compare the current underlying with the displayed range levels and pressure or cushion bands. Keep the calculation timestamp in view.
- Add context
Read positioning, volatility, and trend before interpreting a range boundary as a possible decision area.
What an implied range tells you
Options embed a price for uncertainty. EFI turns the selected chain into a dated range and level map, so a small price change can be judged against the movement priced for that horizon. A wider range describes more priced uncertainty; it does not supply a bullish or bearish direction.
An expiration range and a realized historical range answer different questions. Keep their time windows and units aligned before comparing them.
Where the inputs come from
Massive supplies option expiration metadata and live option snapshots. Stock prices and OHLC history come from yfinance. The regular Expected Ranges workflow selects the relevant short, weekly, and monthly chains instead of treating every expiration as one interchangeable horizon.
The dashboard, Expected Ranges chart, and stock-chart overlay present core-owned range values. The overlay identifies its calculation time; it is a current snapshot rather than a historical forecast drawn retroactively over earlier candles.
What this cannot establish
- Price can move beyond an implied boundary. The displayed probability scope is a model output, not a guarantee.
- A fresh stock price does not make an older option snapshot fresh. Check both the source and the observation time.
- Missing or expired range evidence should remain unavailable rather than becoming a zero-width range.
