How do I put levels and indicators beside the actual price path?
The Stock Charts workspace combines adjusted historical candles, drawings, technical studies, and an optional EFI Expected Ranges overlay. Start with the observed path, then add only the layers needed to answer your question.
A useful read order
- Verify the candles
Choose the symbol and timeframe, then check the source and last-bar timestamp.
- Mark the structure
Use lines, rays, levels, zones, paths, and measurements to describe the price areas you want to inspect.
- Add a dated layer
Use technical indicators or Expected Ranges while keeping calculated values separate from your own drawings.
What the workspace supports
The chart supports mouse and touch navigation, watchlists, PNG export, named layouts, and an editable drawing list. Drawings follow the symbol across timeframes. Undo and redo cover drawing creation, movement, deletion, and supported style changes within the session.
SMA, EMA, Bollinger Bands, RSI, MACD, ATR, and Volume are available studies. EFI computes indicators from the admitted candle history; missing source evidence and insufficient lookback must remain unavailable rather than being filled with made-up values.
Observed history versus current overlays
Candles use adjusted yfinance history with explicit source and last-bar times. They are not an exchange realtime feed. Provider retention can shorten intraday history, and incomplete or invalid bars are excluded.
The Expected Ranges overlay shows the current calculation after the latest observed bar, with its timestamp. It is not proof that those levels existed earlier. Workspace settings and named layouts save in this browser's local storage and do not sync between devices.
What this cannot establish
- Drawings are user annotations, not independently validated market levels.
- An indicator describes the chosen data window and can lag a changing market.
- Chart spacing beyond the latest candle is navigation room, not synthetic future prices.
