How does an at-the-money straddle's cost compare with recent movement?
EFI's Straddle screen compares a verified ATM ask debit, or an explicitly dated session-mark estimate, with recent underlying movement over a selected session window. Gamma and implied-volatility context remain separate parts of the review.
A useful read order
- Verify the debit
Check the exact call and put, common strike and expiration, and whether the cost is a live ask debit or a dated estimate.
- Match the window
Compare the selected session horizon with the movement evidence rather than mixing daily and expiration outcomes.
- Research the catalyst
Review upcoming events, pricing, and positioning before deciding what the numerical comparison means.
Two options, one movement question
A long straddle combines a call and put at the same strike and expiration. Its premium pays for exposure to movement in either direction, while time decay and changing implied volatility still affect the package.
The screen orders a selected basket using a transparent movement-value score. A historically large stock range relative to premium is a comparison to investigate, not a promise that the next window will repeat it or that the package will earn a return.
Numerical screen versus event research
EFI's numerical screen does not impose an event-calendar gate and does not issue an EFI buy/pass verdict. Catalyst research is a separate step. Broad and expiration-specific gamma, IV, quote quality, and recent stock movement retain their own context.
Basket scans report progress and can be stopped. The older Straddles route redirects to the Screeners straddle tab. An optional journal requires live quotes and samples while open; it is not a scheduled alert service.
What this cannot establish
- Historical movement can exceed the debit without proving an executable profitable trade.
- A dated estimate and a live two-sided quote have different freshness and execution meaning.
- Spreads, fees, time decay, and volatility changes affect results beyond the stock's direction.
